Growing my career with Acturis Canada

This May will mark five years since I joined Acturis. I have grown more in this period than in any other stage of my career.

I didn’t originally set out to become a Project Manager at Acturis. At my previous company, I had hit a wall. There was no real path for advancement and no clear opportunities to stretch my skills, the structure there was flat and I knew I needed a change to continue my career progression so I started looking for roles that aligned with my skills.

The role I initially had my eye on was the Technical Business Analyst, but it was already filled by the time I applied. A recruiter reached out again at a later time and said there was a Project Manager position they thought I’d be perfect for. During the interview process, my conversations with our Managing Director and others on the team made something click for me and Acturis felt like a place where I could be part of building something. The company was still early in its Canadian expansion, which meant real opportunities for growth.

Growing With the Company

When I first started, I wasn’t leading anything yet but eventually took on small areas of a major strategic project. Over time, I began to take on small projects which turned into slightly bigger ones, then more complex ones.

My overall responsibilities in the company have also grown a lot since I joined. Today I am the Unit Leader for the Project Management in Canada, leading a team of six talented people. My role has evolved to include recruitment, managing team resources, providing oversight across multiple projects and supporting my team’s development.

What Helped Me Grow

I’ve been able to develop so quickly with the help of strong mentorship and accessibility to other experienced people within the company. There are so many knowledgeable people here who genuinely want to help employees grow. The culture encourages initiative, curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Regular check‑ins, honest conversations, and leaders who genuinely ask, “What do you want out of your career?” have made all the difference for me. I’ve always been clear about wanting to grow into leadership roles, and that transparency was met with support.

Acturis is also committed to valuing individual effort. If you put in the effort and show up consistently, leaders notice and you are recognized and rewarded for being a high performer.

What I Value Most About Acturis

The visibility you get at Acturis is rare. Everyone is eager to help and easy to reach out to. The members of our Senior leadership team are approachable and open.

Acturis has demonstrated their openness to acting on employee feedback and are committed to making this a great place to work. They have shown this within my time here by increasing employee vacation allowance, implementing fully paid employee health benefits and RRSP matching.

I also love being part of a company that is working towards actively transforming an industry. The work we do changes how brokers operate, makes their working lives easier, and pushes technology forward in ways other vendors aren’t. It’s exciting to contribute to a company that is driving change.

Advice for Anyone Wanting to Grow Here

If someone asked me what it takes to build a successful career at Acturis, here’s what I’d tell them:

  • Be kind. Building rapport goes further than you think.
  • Be consistent. Do what you say you’re going to do. And if you can’t, let people know as soon as possible.
  • Own your mistakes. If you miss something or make a mistake, make it known and find a way to make things right.
  • Know what you want. Have an idea of what you want your career to look like and share it with your mentors so that they can support you.
  • Advocate for yourself. Speak up and pay attention to how your actions align with your long‑term goals.

Looking Back—and Forward
