Growing with Purpose: My Career Journey at Acturis
Femi
I’ve been with the company for just over two years now. It feels both fast and full—like a lot has happened in a short amount of time. I originally joined in the same role I’m in today, a People Operations Advisor in a generalist position, and from the beginning it felt like a natural fit.
What Drew Me to Acturis
Interestingly, I didn’t seek out the role myself. A recruiter reached out and shared that the position was quite broad, very much a generalist opportunity. During our first call, I even said I wasn’t planning on working in a tech company again because my previous experience in that space wasn’t the most stable. But the recruiter encouraged me to hear them out.
What really won me over was the promise of stability. I learned about the company’s long-standing presence in the UK—over two decades—which was very appealing after coming from somewhere heavily affected by fluctuating venture capital funding. I wanted to join a place that felt secure, established, and sustainable.
I also liked the people I met during the interview process. Before each interview, I did my usual research and looked up everyone on LinkedIn. It genuinely seemed like a group I could grow with. My future manager had close to a decade of experience in executive coaching, which made me feel like I’d have the right support and mentorship to progress in my career. And the role itself offered the variety I enjoy; being a generalist means touching a bit of everything, and that diversity has always excited me.
How My Career Has Evolved
Since joining, my role has definitely evolved. The company has grown significantly in Canada, and with that growth came more employees to support, more areas to learn about, and more regional legislative standards to understand. All of that added up to increased responsibility—challenging at times, but in a way that has helped me develop professionally.
Another major part of my growth has been stepping into more of a mentorship role. Previously, I was often part of very small teams. Now, I’ve had the chance to work with, support, and help grow members of the People Operations and Office teams. It’s been meaningful to see where I can contribute, what leadership looks like for me personally, and how I can best help others in their own development.
Shifting from Operations to Strategy
When I first joined, the focus of my work was primarily client service delivery and day-to-day operations—keeping things moving and making sure everything stayed on track. As the company expanded, my responsibilities shifted. I’m still involved in the day‑to‑day, but now I also take on more project management work.
These projects are connected to broader strategic goals, often benefiting not just the People team but the organization as a whole. Stepping into project‑based work has stretched me in the best ways. It’s pushed me to think bigger and see how my contributions fit into the larger picture.
How Acturis Has Contributed to My Growth
My growth here isn’t just tied to the job itself—it’s also tied to timing. I joined during a period of rapid development for the Canadian operations. When a company is expanding, you naturally get exposed to more challenges and opportunities, and that accelerates learning.
The employees across the country have contributed to that growth too. Supporting a diverse, widespread group means constantly learning new things. It’s pushed me to become more adaptable and knowledgeable in ways I didn’t expect but really appreciate now.
What I Value Most About Working Here
Without a doubt, it’s the people.
I know everyone says that, but in this case it’s really true. The culture is collaborative, supportive, and genuinely solution‑oriented. Whether we’re working through a project, brainstorming how to improve processes, or just catching up, it never feels forced. There’s a real sense of wanting to make work better—for employees, for teams, and for the organization overall.
Connecting with coworkers doesn’t feel like a task. It feels natural, fun, and energizing. That’s rare, and I value it a lot.
Advice for Anyone Wanting to Grow Here
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is the importance of putting your hand up. Whenever a project comes along—even one you’re not sure you’re fully qualified for—it’s worth saying, “I’d like to help.” Some of my best growth moments came from stepping into something unknown and figuring it out along the way.
Being open and transparent with your manager or mentor is also key. This is an environment where people genuinely want to support you, but they can only do that if you’re honest about your goals. When you have advocates who understand where you want to go, opportunities start to show up.
Making an Impact From Day One
One of the things I love most about working here is how quickly your work can make a real impact. Especially within the Canadian operations, things are growing and evolving fast. If you put forward a project or idea, you can often see it implemented almost immediately. It’s incredibly rewarding to see your contributions take shape and actually improve people’s experiences.
You’re not just pushing paper. You’re driving change, improving processes, and supporting the people who ultimately make the business run. From conversations I’ve had with colleagues across different teams, there’s a shared sense of pride that the work we do impacts brokers’ lives in meaningful ways.
Final Thoughts
If someone is thinking about joining the company, I’d say it’s a great time. We’ve been building the Canadian team for about six years now, and there’s still so much room for growth and innovation. It’s an environment where you can learn quickly, make a visible impact, and be surrounded by supportive, driven people.
Overall, my experience has been one of growth, challenge, community, and genuine fulfillment—and I’m excited for what comes next.
